Amelia By The Sea
Fernandina Beach, Florida

This seven story beach front property is constructed of cast-in-place reinforced concrete beams and columns with exterior hollow-core slabs for the private balconies and common access walkways.

The adjacent Atlantic Ocean is a continual source of chlorides which concentrate on the structure when ocean spray from storms evaporates. Chloride attack resulting in corrosion is a common cause of concrete deterioration in this environment. Corrosion of the embedded pre-stressing strands in the hollow-core slabs resulted in a full-scale concrete restoration project.

The structural repair solution included epoxy bonding agents and polymer modified concrete repair products.
